FAQ

                                     (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is Redland Christian Academy?

R.C.A. is a private, Christian school.  We have been serving the Homestead community since 1977.  R.C.A. is a ministry of the Homestead Church of Christ and our School Board members are members of the Homestead Church of Christ.  R.C.A. is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.  Our purpose is to provide area students with an excellent academic education and the teachings to allow them to develop a personal relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

What grades attend R.C.A?

R.C.A. serves preschoolers (3 and 4 year olds) through 12th grade.

Who accredits R.C.A?

Redland Christian Academy is fully accredited by the Florida Independent School Association (FISA) which is recognized by the State of Florida.  This means that the work your child does here and the courses he or she takes are recognized and accepted by schools nation-wide. In high school, this means your child's courses and credits will be accepted by all institutions of higher learning.  R.C.A. is also a member of the National Christian School Association (NCSA) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

What credentials do your teachers have?

All of our preschool teachers have CDA's (child development associates degrees).  Our elementary, middle school and senior high school teachers all possess a bachelor's degrees or higher.  Several of our teachers possess master's degrees and two of our high school teachers have doctorate degrees.  All of our teachers are either certified or in the process of certification.

What curricula do your students use?

Our preschool and elementary students use the A Beka curriculum.  A Beka is a Christian based curriculum with a strong phonetic reading program.  Our students learn to read in preschool and continue to excel from there.  Our middle school and senior high school students use a variety of curricula written by leading publishers including Prentice Hall, Glencoe, Harcourt, Holt, Reinhart & Winston and BJU Press.  Our curricula and courses challenge students to perform to the fullest extent of their potential.

What is the teacher/student ratio at R.C.A?

In preschool, we have one teacher for every 12 three-year olds and one teacher for every 15 four-year olds.  In Kindergarten through 12th grade, our ratio is one teacher for every 20 students.  Our Special Education classes average 12 students for every teacher or teacher's aide.

Are uniforms mandatory at R.C.A?

Yes, all students must wear school uniforms.  The uniforms may be purchased at Sunshine School Uniforms in Kendall.

Do you provide transportation?

No, we do not provide transportation, but we do have a list of local bus companies that will transport students to and from our school.  Their fees are based on the distance the child lives from school.  They provide both one-way and round trip transportation.

What scholarships does R.C.A. accept?

We accept Florida Pride scholarships and a limited number of McKay scholarships based on space availability.

When can I enroll my child?

Students may be enrolled at R.C.A. any time during the school year if there is space available in the child's grade.  If you are considering enrolling your child for the next school year, open enrollment begins March 1st and continues until the class fills up.

What is required for enrollment?

Parents must bring the student's birth certificate, health records, social security card, previous school records (if available to the parent) and the appropriate fees (click here for tuition prices).  Students in grades 1 through 12 are required to have a reference form completed from their previous school.  All new students entering 1st through 12th grade must be tested for grade placement.

Are students and their families required to be Christians to attend Redland Christian Academy?

No, neither the students nor their families are required to be Christians to attend R.C.A.  However, all students will attend daily Bible classes and chapel services and all students and their families will be encouraged to worship God regularly with their regular church.  If you do not have a church home, then you are most welcome to worship with us at the Homestead Church of Christ.
